At the first business schools in Croatia economic subjects were then taught by people from state institutions, such as the deputy chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. The first qualified Economics teachers completed their degree in Business Studies at the Export Academy in Vienna and then obtained all necessary teaching credentials as well as the state exam. However, training for the teaching staff remained unregulated and was rather an exception than the rule.

Business Education in Croatia is fundamentally different from the one in Austrian, where itis an independent science with a transdisciplinary character, while in Croatia Business Education consists of a degree in economics and additional qualifications in pedagogics, psychology, didactics, and methodology. With this combination graduates have a polyvalent qualification and can therefore work in both – school- as well as in extracurricular settings.

Studying Business education in Croatia does not include practical school training in the first part of the studies; but only in the second part of the additional qualification-training. Thus, no objective and/or subjective knowledge can be associated with it. Due to the diversity of business subjects at vocational schools and colleges there is no obligation for a combination with other subjects in Croatia.
