Understanding

The Australian education system offers degrees similar to the Austrian business education and development program which cover the same areas of qualificationalbeit under a different labeling.

Students in Australia first attend primary school until grade 6 and then continue with Secondary School. After a successful completion of grade 12 in secondary school, pupils earn their Senior Secondary Certificate of Education which can be seen as equivalent to the Austrian school leaving exam.

In order to teach business subjects in a secondary school (students aged 12 to 18) one has the choice between various university programs that lead to the desired qualification.

A four year dualsystem, consisting of two bachelor degrees - one bachelor in business and one in teaching/education - constitutes the first option.

Another option is the Graduate Diploma of Teaching: this is a one year program focusing on teaching that requires some kind of undergraduate business degree as prerequisite.

A Master of Teaching is the third possibility. This program requires a bachelors degree in business and takes 2 years.

All of these programs cover both general pedagogic and subject specific contents and include an internship in a secondary school.

The last step in becoming a teacher is the registration at a teacher institute. This registration can be seen as an regular application where specific qualifications in teaching and education have to be proven.

Every state in Australia administers its educational system independently what leads to some differences within the various curricula despite uniform learning fields.
